We all seek creativity in business, even if we don’t know it. When we are looking for new clients we are being creative. Coming up with new products to sell, thinking about funding and financing all take a creative touch. Some entrepreneurs wonder, “How can I be more creative in business?” It is about thinking outside of the box. Brainstorming, a term used in advertising, is an act of spontaneously sharing thoughts and ideas, no matter how obscure they seem. We need to give ourselves permission to be creative, and spontaneous. It is important to let your playful side come out without judging the responses. It is amazing what new and original items can come from such a session of brainstorming. Being playful and thinking outside of the box offers us new and interesting ideas that prompt growth.
Be careful of the following terms, “But, we have always done it this way,” or “We have never done it that way.” Pablo Picasso said, “Every act of creation is fist an act of destruction” Even painting on a canvas, one must destroy the pristine canvas. So it is with creative thought. Often we have to destroy our old precepts to find the creative new thought. Creative thinking means looking at something differently, differently than you have looked at it before or than others have looked at something.
We are all creative as children, and somehow our creativity is taught out of us. We must learn to regain that childlike way of thinking, and in doing so it will help our grown up business endeavors.
